'Walk in my Shoes' event held at the Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center held a 'Walk in my Shoes' event Saturday.

The event was one of many they've held throughout April to celebrate Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

They walked from the Children's Advocacy Center to the Bay County Courthouse and then to the Trauma Therapy Treatment Team building, all places that signify what the center aims to help children with.

Abby-Rose Bachelor, a walk participant, said, "People don't talk about these things they think it's too harsh or it's morbid or that kids aren't going to understand or that they can't...they don't have the mental capacity to comprehend things like this and that's just not the case because it is children that it affects and silence is violence and telling kids that it's not okay to talk about is like telling them it's not okay to tell the truth."

The Founder and CEO of the Lauren's Kids Foundation, Lauren Book, was also there to take part in the event. Lauren's Kids is a foundation dedicated to preventing sexual abuse through education and awareness.
