Walton County buys Freeport business park

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Recently, it seems like Walton County officials have been in a land buying mood.

Tuesday, Walton County Commissioners approved the purchase of a 24 unit business park in Freeport off of Highway 20.

"To really address space is one issue, but also consistency and coherence with the departments as opposed to having them in two different locations," Walton County Public Information Officer Louis Svehla said.

The new office space will be to house multiple county operations, including bringing the planning and building department all under the same roof.

"The county only has so much space. So by moving these departments down to that area. It will certainly free up some space in existing buildings for those constitutionals who are going to need to expand and potentially down the road there is going to be available space in Freeport for other expansions that may need to take place as well," Svehla said.

The property is worth $2.35 million, but the county is only paying $1.92 million, with the owner donating the difference.
