Good Wednesday morning everyone!
Meteorologist Ryan Michaels chats with anchors Jessica Foster and Paris Janos about today's weather and what to expect.
It's a quiet start for most on radar this morning despite the Forgotten Coast where Franklin County is speckled with scattered showers and occasional rumbles of thunder. We'll see most of the morning showers or thunderstorms remain over Gulf, Franklin, and Southern Liberty County early on today. But we will expect to see these showers and storms expand across more of NWFL as the day passes. Go ahead and pack the umbrellas for today, as well as, the rain boots for the next couple days as we'll have some bouts of rain to battle. Today's rain totals will be around a quarter to half inch for most, but those few who see stronger thunderstorms may see totals reach 1-2" by the day's end.
Otherwise, it's a warm and humid morning with most waking up in the upper 70s under mostly cloudy skies. Highs today reach the upper 80s to maybe some spotty low 90s around Crestview as it takes a little longer for storms to reach some locations inland this afternoon.
Our area of low pressure is currently situated south of Indian Pass in the Gulf of Mexico and moving further to the west. As it moves to the west we'll notice a more southeasterly wind developing today and becoming slightly breezy at times tomorrow. Showers and thunderstorms will be widespread over NWFL due to this system today, starting in the southeast and spreading out across the rest of NWFL throughout the day.
There's a 90 percent chance we'll see a depression develop as this low continues to trek further west and away from NWFL later today and into tonight. This will create bands and clusters of showers and storms that will pass through NWFL in waves over the next couple days where some heavy rains can be expected at times. Rain totals, from today through Sunday, across the Panhandle are holding around 2-3" for most with some pockets of higher amounts of up to 6" possible by the end of the weekend.
For today, mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely, some may be strong with heavy rains and briefly gusty winds. Highs today reach the upper 80s on the coast to low 90s inland. Your 7 Day Forecast keeps us running unsettled as bands of showers and thunderstorms are likely to pass through both Thursday and Friday.
