BAY COUNTY, Fla (WJHG/WECP) - About 40 new students joined West Bay Elementary this week after Hurricane Michael.
The new students were welcomed by the entire school Friday morning by spinning the school wheel to figure out which "house" they would be a part of. All students are split into four different houses: courage, empathy, harmony or kindness. It's a chance for all students and teachers to get to know everyone school wide. New students came from all over, including Tyndall, Springfield, and Callaway.
"Our new word here at West Bay is hope. That's our goal is to give these students and all of our scholars hope for the future. So for faith, family and future that's what we are here for our scholars for," West Bay Elementary's Principal Deniece Moss said.
West Bay did lose less than a dozen students because of Hurricane Michael, but administration except to get more students next week.
