West Nile virus in Bay County

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG) - A mosquito-borne illness alert has been issued for Bay County after two people were confirmed to have West Nile virus.

The Florida Department of Health in Bay County is concerned additional people may become sick. The DOH advises that Bay County residents take the necessary precautions to stop mosquitoes from multiplying.

Heather Kretzer, the Public Information Officer for the Florida Department of Health in Bay County, said to "Make sure that any standing water around your business is cleaned up after a rain storm. So go around and check and make sure there isn't any."

To avoid a bite from a mosquito make sure to cover skin with clothing or repellent.
