Youngstown home destroyed in fire

YOUNGSTOWN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A fire destroyed a single-family home in Youngstown Friday afternoon.

Just after 3 p.m. Bay County Sheriff's Office and Bay County Fire responded to a fully engulfed home on Creek Run Road.

"We arrived to a fully involved structure fire. The fire had already vented through the roof," Bay County Firefighter Robert Lavery said.

A neighbor had seen the fire and rushed to get the homeowner out as he called 911.

Officials said when they arrived the woman and two of her dogs were able to make it out of the house safely.

They said, unfortunately, they were no able to save a third dog that was in a back bedroom.

The crew dispatched several fire trucks because the closest fire hydrant was nearly five miles away.

"It was a little bit of a challenge because of the water supply and no hydrants, so we were in a water shuttle situation. Having to shuttle a bunch of water to bring to the fire," Lavery explained.

Once the fire is completely out and cooled down, a fire marshal will try to determine what started the fire.
