Marianna among the schools dealing with serious damage to athletic facilities

MARIANNA, FL (WJHG/WECP) To say the least, these are tough times for High School administrators across our area, and that includes Athletic Directors and coaches!

Not only are coaches straining just to make sure their kids are ok, and have a place to play, they're trying to get practices and games scheduled.

All that while working around some rather damaged athletic facilities.

Case in point, Marianna High School here. As you can see, there was extensive damage to the bleachers and backstops at the softball and baseball fields.

To say the least we're looking at tens of thousands of dollars in damages, hopefully insurance will help repair and replace these facilities, especially in these times of already strained athletic budgets.

For Athletic Directors like John Donaldson, right now there are more questions than answers!

"We just don't know, (we are) still in the stages of insurance. Our softball field is completely gone. Our baseball field is completely gone. Our football complex, the bleachers were in the middle of the field, we've got that removed. Our gym is intact, our school is mostly intact, we've lost some roofing and stuff. But yeah, we've got a tremendous hill to climb as far as facilities and scheduling. This ain't gonna be fixed next week!"

Coach Donaldson and his Bulldogs are hosting Holmes Friday at 3 p.m He tells us he's hoping to finalize games for Tuesday and next Friday, so likely this team will play three times in 8 days.
