JUPITER, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - From "Anchor Down" at Vandy to "Hammer Down" in Jupiter, JJ Bleday is officially a professional baseball player.
For a limited time only, the Marlins' fourth overall draft pick is a member of the Advanced A Jupiter Hammerheads, making his debut Saturday and Sunday batting third and playing right field.
The Mosley alum's first hit came in his third at bat, a single off a 93 mph fast ball. He went 1-for-4 Saturday and 2-for-4 Sunday, with all hits being singles.
It's business as usual for Bleday, he's just getting paid for it now.
"It's the same game," Bleday said following he debut. "Regardless of what level you're at, it's the same game. You can't hype it up, you've got to stick to what you're good at and don't try to be something you're not."
Even so, the first game as a pro is a unique moment.
"Going up for that first AB, you've got butterflies. You're nervous. You're excited. It's only one, but this just comes with it. It's like that every game, so you've got to enjoy that. You've got to embrace that."
Jupiter won both games over the weekend. They play in Port Charlotte Monday.
