Blountstown prepares to host region final against Taylor

BLOUNTSTOWN, FL (WJHG/WECP) Round three of the football state playoffs has just three area teams still working this week--Blountstown and Niceville still undefeated.

The Tigers are past Port St. Joe and now setting their playoff sights on Taylor!

Coach Beau Johnson's Tigers improved to 11-0 with a near flawless 34-0 win over Port St. Joe, and now get set to host 8-3 Taylor, with the winner of Friday's region final earning a berth in the 1A semifinals.

Although last week's performance looked perfect on the box score, the Tigers aren't settling.

"To us coaches, there's still a lot to work on that we didn't think went great," Johnson admitted. "We came out and did rather well early. We needed that bye week to get healed up. We were kind of beat up with the season and schedule, especially playing Vernon and Baker and St. Joe there. So we needed some time to heal up and it was good for us."

Taylor comes to Bowles Field off a win over Jefferson. Although the Tigers' record is better, Johnson believes this is going to be a true test for his team.

"They are very, very talented. They've got three DI receivers. They've got a young quarterback who can really spin it. They've got a ton of team speed, so we've got our work cut out for us. Iit will be a huge challenge for us. But you know we do some things that they're not gonna like defending either. They don't see many teams like us, so it will be different for them too. So it's gonna be a very interesting match up."

Kickoff is set for 7:30 Friday. We will have the highlights in our late news.
