Blountstown set to host Port St. Joe in the Tigers playoff opener Friday

The Tigers take practice reps ahead of their preseason classic against North Florida Christian.

BLOUNTSTOWN, FL (WJHG/WECP) The Blountstown Tigers are set to open up the playoffs after getting a bye in round one.
That comes Friday night in the 1A region semifinals. 5-6 St. Joe at 10-0 Blountstown. The Tigers, as the top seed in 1A region-2, thus getting the bye last week.

"I think the bye week came at a good time for us." says Blountstown head coach Beau Johnson. "Because our bye week this year in our regular season schedule was like week two. So we kind of needed a week like that. But you do worry about getting rusty though, losing a little momentum. But I think our kids needed the rest and we were pretty beat up. And I think the advantage is you get some rest and heal."

So a rested team that's really not been challenged this season, a perfect 10-0 with the smallest margin of victory being 21 against 4A Marianna. So just how confident are these Tigers going into this game Friday?

"You know that's a funny question. I think we're very confident, but I don't think we're arrogant. We try to stay grounded. I think our coaching staff and kids do a good job of taking it a week at a time. We haven't gotten film on any other teams or anything like that. We're worried about Port St. Joe this Friday, here and what they're good at, and trying to do our best. But I think they are confident but not arrogant."

That game set for 7 o'clock, we'll have the highlights on our late news Friday night.

The Tigers last time on the field, they whipped previously unbeaten Baker in the final of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference North Florida Playoff, 33-7 that final.
