PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Thanks to the Bay County community, the cheer teams at Arnold, Bay, and Mosley will have something to cheer about next weekend too.
All three hoped to compete at the regional meet Saturday January 19th in Jacksonville, but rules state you must have four head to head competitions to be eligible.
That's was a problem. These programs lost a month to Michael, so they only had three and they've lost out on traditional fundraising for the trip because of post-storm circumstances.
Not to worry anymore.
Families and friends filled the Marlin Athletic Center Saturday evening for their fourth meet, and the attendees' generosity ensures they have the money to travel.
"We are very appreciative of our community coming out and supporting us," Mosley coach Kristen Samples said. "It is very difficult to ask for that support during this difficult time. A lot of us in Bay County have lost everything and we're just thankful and blessed to be in this community who have come out to support us."
The event exceeded monetary and attendance expectations despite it's last minute nature.
"Everything relies on flexibility," Bay coach Ashley Mosley said. "We didn't know if we were going to be able to do it, where we were going to be able to do it. We didn't have mats. Everything has been a challenge but we've been able to pull through and pull these events together."
A joint event last year raised two thousand dollars. That figure amount was exceeded on Saturday.
