Chipola celebrates softball national championship Tuesday

The folks at Chipola College are getting used to celebrating championships, and even national championships. Tuesday another such celebration for coaches Belinda and Jimmy Hendrix and their Chipola softball team!

Chipola Associate Head Coach Jimmy Hendrix loses some of his hair as part of a promise he made to his softball players!

The Indians, after winning the Panhandle championship, and finishing as runner up in the region, or state tournament, plowed their way through five opponents at the National Tournament in Utah last week, winning those five games with an aggregate score of 69-10.

The team getting back midday Sunday, but Tuesday the official on campus celebration with family, faculty, fans and friends!

"That's the great thing about Chipola is that it's a big family." Associate head coach Jimmy Hendrix told us during the celebration. "From all the teams that show up to your games to all the fans to the events like this. It's a community family. Our kids can go to Walmart and they know someone from the community out there, it's great."

As for blowing through the field at Nationals they way they did, well coach Hendrix believes one of the motivating tools he and coach Belinda Hendrix used may have helped just a bit!

"You know our motto all year was one pitch, one game." coach Hendrix says. "Each kid had a penny, either as a bracelet or a necklace, just to focus on that one pitch, that one play, that one at bat, that one game. And we got out there and everything fell into place and we were pretty good

Oh by the way, coach Hendrix told the ladies if they won the national title, he'd shave his head, so that was part of Tuesday's festivities! The coach showing his wod is gold!

This the third national championship for Chipola softball, the previous two coming in 2007 and 2015. This the 7th national title for all the programs there combined!
