PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Sophomore ceremonies before the final home games for Gulf Coast served as a reminder of the team's perseverance through tragedy and challenges throughout the 2018-2019 season.
Once the games began--and ended--it was Chipola who persevered and came out on top.
The women's teams saved the most exciting ten seconds of the year for the final ten seconds of the regular season. A back and forth game and two month Panhandle season ended with a Valerie Nesbitt buzzer-beater to lift Chipola over Gulf Coast, 75-74.
Gulf Coast shares the Panahandle Conference title with Northwest Florida. Their state tournament seed is unaffected. For the Lady Indians...this may have saved their playoff hopes.
The Chipola men's basketball team ended the regular season on a high note, propped up by a season-high 36 points from sophomore Keishawn Brewton in a 99-84 victory. The Indians enter the state tournament at 26-4, playing as the second seed behind conference champ Northwest Florida.
