Chipola loses Sunday in Grand Junction, heading home from Juco World Series

Chipola falls 20-12 in elimination game at Juco World Series in Colorado.

GRAND JUNCTION, CO (WJHG/WECP) There will be no threepeat for the Chipola baseball team at the Juco World Series. Chipola knocked off by a team out of Kansas, Cowley, by a score of 20-12 Sunday in their loser's bracket elimination game.

Cowley scored five times in the top of the third, and five more times in the fourth on the way to building an 11-1 lead.

Chipola didn't get to Grand Junction by being a team that tosses in the towel, so not unexpectedly, the Indians rallied back, scoring two in the fourth, two in the fifth, and seven runs in the sixth, highlighted by a three-run home run by pinch-hitter Parker Pillsbury. That rally tied the game up at 12 going into the 7th.

Cowley would take control of the game back though with four in the seventh and the Tigers iced it with four more in the ninth to get the 20-12 win.

Last year, Chipola won five straight games after dropping into the loser's bracket to win a second straight national title. There would be no such magic this time around, the Indians are heading home.

Chipola’s season ends with a record of 38-20.
