SANDESTIN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic at Sandestin is one week away from launch.
Last year the event reached new highs with 91 boats participating and just over two million dollars in prize money handed out. Tournament director Adam Alfonso says all indications are they will surpass those numbers next week.
"If we get to 100 boats, our average spin per boat is about $25,000, so we'll definitely see that $2.25 million," Alfonso told NewsChannel 7. "It might even grow further than that because of some of the events that happened in the past. These guys are very excited. The fishing is great and they're ready to come and put what they think that they can handle on the line."
The event kicks off with a golf tournament and kickoff party Wednesday, Boats depart to fish Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with weigh-ins taking place Friday and Saturday night.
