WEWAHITCHKA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The first Thanksgiving after Hurricane Michael has been a difficult day for many in the panhandle.
Thankfully for families in the Vernon and Wewahitchka area, a local coach is on their team, bringing a little bit of joy and a lot of food along with him.
Along with his wife and friends, Wewa football head coach and athletic director Bobby Johns delivered 70 full meals those communities on Sunday. His efforts continued on Tuesday, giving out meals to approximately 15 players and their families.
Johns is a familiar face in both towns, now in his second year at Wewa after a a two year stint in 2013-2014 at Vernon High School.
Johns thanks the Wewa Ministerial Association for their help, providing nearly 200 additional meals.
Thanks to their efforts, a happy and hearty Thanksgiving was had by all, another example of philanthropy on and off the field in our close-knit region.
