Grand Lagoon Grand Slam Tournament set for this weekend

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - With the Grand Lagoon Grand Slam tournament starting Thursday, anglers are getting set to cast a line.

The three day tournament based out of Lighthouse Marina in Panama City Beach is entering its third year.

Depending on the size of the boat, anglers will fish for one or two days and will fish for wahoo, tuna, and dolphin, while the bigger boats will also fish for blue marlin.

Organizers say the bite is on for marlin this year.

Tournament director, Scott Burt said, "We should see some big fish and the blue marlin bite has been phenomenal this year and we would be a bit surprised if we don't see a blue."

Because those chances are a little higher, the weigh-ins will be different.

Burt continued, "It's optional on Friday night, I'll only weigh a blue marlin if they call one in on Friday night, otherwise, all the weigh-ins will happen Saturday night."

The optional weigh-in on Friday is from 7-8 p.m. and the Saturday weigh in will start at 6 p.m.
