Hoops history on the line in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The start of a new week brings the opportunity of a lifetime to some high school athletes in the Panhandle.

One of the most successful seasons ever in this region comes to a close in Lakeland, with state semifinals and championships on the schedule for three area teams.

In 1A, Port St. Joe and Paxton square off in the semis against each other on Monday morning.

To get here, the Sharks beat Baker in the region final, one of their class-leading 27 wins this season. Paxton is 23-6, beating Holmes in the region final. Neither team has lost a game in 2018.

Tipoff is schedule for 10 a.m. eastern.

Mosley represents the region in 6A. They'll practice one last time at Redfern Gym Monday prior to making the trip to Lakeland the following day.

After beating Bishop Kenny and cutting down the nets, the Lady Dolphins move into the state semis to face Ponte Vedra Wednesday night at 6 eastern.

No team from Bay County has ever achieve a state semifinal berth in girls basketball.
