Marianna, Port St. Joe set for Friday football meeting

MARIANNA/PORT ST. JOE, FL (WJHG/WECP) For the teams that will meet in Marianna Friday night, it's two different moods in practice this week. One's coming off a tough loss and a deluge from Mother Nature. The other is feeling pretty good after week one.

The Port St. Joe Sharks playing up in class, heading north to take on the Marianna Bulldogs.

So 1A against 4A here. First, the home tea. Coach John Donaldson and his Bulldogs, coming off the disappointing week one trip to Chipley.

They wound up on the short end of a 24-10 score in that one. Having a deluge strike in the second half of that one not helping the cause much.

"It was a long weekend," Donaldson told us Wednesday "tough and we certainly found a lot of mistakes. It looked like a first game for us. And then all the weather that moved in Monday made it an even more challenging day. Well we've got to get lined up right. And we've got to play all four quarters. We really thought we were conditioned to play in the rain because we practice in it every day, but we just lost focus and turned the ball over. And it cost us."

As for the Sharks, they are coming off a 35-0 shutout win in their opener last week against the rival Gators.

The offense putting up a lot of points, the defense not giving up any, so tough for coach Greg Jordan to be too disappointed about in his first game guiding that program.

Jordan says he was happy with the result, but at this point of the season, it's all about improving!

"I hope we can continue to improve as the year goes on, throughout the year." Jordan told me. "We do look forward to seeing the improvements that we make between week one and two. Marianna should provide us different challenges that Wewa did. So the kids are looking forward to playing another round and I'm excited about this week's game."

That game Friday set for 7, and is one of several games we'll feature on Friday Night Overtime.
