Marianna set to head to PSJ for week 2 match up

Week two of the high school football season certainly brings us some good match ups. Among them, Marianna head coach John Donaldson and his Marianna Bulldogs heading south to take on coach Greg Jordan and the Sharks.

The Bulldogs and their single wing attack getting set to take on Port St. Joe

Like Port St. Joe, the 'dogs head into their week two ballgame 1-0. Though coach Donaldson says his team's 34-14 win over Chipley left him with a to-do list this week that was a bit lengthy.

"We certainly found a lot of things we can work on." coach Donaldson told us. "We did some things well, but there's certainly a lot of room for improvement. You know we had some missed assignments, had people playing the wrong gap on defense, we blew some coverages and substitution problems. Just things that happen early on in the season."

Still Marianna beating Chipley last Friday, and that following a convincing win at Arnold in their preseason classic. And the coach says even with some things to clean up, it does appear his "single wing" offense is working for the Bulldogs, as they are racking up the points early on.

"This is our second year with it and we're certainly way further along than we were a year ago today. And the kids have got a lot of reps with it and we've just gotta get better. You know we've got to be better handling the football and better execution. And it doesn't matter what you run, you've still gotta block people."

As for this match up, this rivalry, well fans can expect good, hard fought football when these two get together, if recent games between them is any indication.

"It's gonna be a rough game, it always is." Donaldson says. "The last several games with them have just been phenomenal ballgames. We played one 7-6, played one 3-2. Last year it was down to the wire, had the ball at the goal line at the end. You know they've just been great ballgames. We're expecting another one, it's gonna be a hard fought battle."

"This is probably the best team I've seen on film out of those guys." says Port St. Joe head coach Greg Jordan. "They've got it all, they've got all the parts. They've got size and speed at the skill positions. And they have some depth. So they're gonna cause any 1A school problems with just depth."

That game set to kick off at 7:30 eastern Friday, it's one of several we'll feature on Friday Night Overtime.
