DELAND, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Niceville boys soccer had been the best by nearly every metric all year, sporting a record of 24-0-2 coming in, a No. 1 ranking in the state and No. 2 ranking in the nation from MaxPreps, but the metrics that matters most is final score in the state championship.
By a final of 7-3, the Eagles win up on the good end of that number too.
Hat tricks by Logan Harrelson and Liam Etan led Niceville to an overtime win over South Broward in Saturday 6A state championship in DeLand.
After having a goal disallowed in the first half, Harrelson scored again to tie the game at 1 in the first half. Etan followed before the break, giving NHS a 2-1 lead heading to the locker room.
Niceville fell behind 3-2, but a Harrelson header off a throw in sent the game extra time, a 20 minute span in which Harrelson and Etan each scored twice to put the game away.
The win caps an undefeated season and earns the first state championship in program history.
