BRADENTON, FL (WJHG/WECP) The Florida State Seminoles continue to work down in Bradenton, at IMG Academy.
And at least one youngster seems to think he's gaining an edged own there.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Bailey Hockman, who is battling both Deondre Francois and James Blackman, who each have a season's worthy of playing time, for the starting job.
First Hockman was asked if the coaches have given the three qb's any indication who might have the edge at this point?
"Not really, we're just all out there playing and competing, to do what we can, do what's best for the team. I mean that's just about it so..
Another reporter then asked Hockman "Where do you think you stand in the competition?"
Hockman replied "I like to say I'm the frontrunner, but you never no. We have no idea. We're just going out there and doing our best. I guess so."
As for one of the coaches who will help make that decision on the starting quarterback, Offensive Coordinator Walt Bell, he says he is impressed with how all the FSU quarterbacks are playing, and not just the three older guys.
"Yeah absolutely, all three of those guys, even our younger guys, you know Nolan (McDonald) and Beau (Fillichio) and Alex (Eleyssami), even those guys, watching those those guys work. But especially the three older kids, they're all having good camps in their own way. They all have their own strengths. They all have things, tools, that we've got to sharpen up a bit, just to make sure their tool box, we can operate the offense. All three of those kids have done really nice jobs."
First year coach Willie Taggart, along with Bell, must decide on a starter relatively soon, as the opener against Virgina Tech, is now just over a couple of weeks away.
FSU will work out one more time in Bradenton and then head back to Tallahassee and resume work there Friday.
