Rutherford baseball coach Cody Chizmar steps down

SPRINGFIELD, FL (WJHG/WECP) Another area high school athletic program is going through a coaching change here in the offseason.

Rutherford baseball head coach Cody Chizmar has turned in his resignation.

This time, it's the Rutherford baseball program we're talking about. Coach Cody Chizmar has resigned that post, leaving the Rams after guiding the program the last three seasons.

The Rams 34-48 in those three seasons, with this past season kind of skewing that overall record, the team 5-20 in the regular season. Several players lost in the wake of the storm, serious damage to the facilities there. Still the team found life late in the season, beating Bay and Walton to win their district title, and they won a playoff game as well.

A.D. Kirk Harrell telling me the coach expressed a desire to pursue other opportunities, so coach Harrell is advertising the job, looking for a somebody with head coaching experience, but he's also open to a first time head coach as long as he is a good fit with the program and the school!

Coach Harrell hoping to have a new coach in place by the beginning of July, but says he won't rush it. Harrell tells us Rutherford alum and recent college graduate Logan Gildea is overseeing the Rams summer program, but with grad school in his future, is not a candidate for the job.
