Rutherford selects baseball coach, to be confirmed next week

SPRINGFIELD, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Sunday will be two months to the day that Cody Chizmar stepped down as Rutherford baseball coach.

If all goes according to plan, the Rams will officially have their man by the beginning of next week.

Athletic director Kirk Harrell confirmed to NewsChannel 7 a selection has been made, but a formal announcement is on hold until he is approved by the district.

Sources also tell NewsChannel 7 the coach in waiting is Jamie Bukowski, an assistant from Palm Bay in Melbourne.

Little has gone according to plan in the search process.

After one month, the search was reopened. Only ten coaches initially applied and five were interviewed. The living situation in the area has been a chief complication in coaching searches at multiple schools.

The Rams went 34-48 in three seasons under Chizmar, the post-Michael campaign negatively skewing those numbers with roster size depleted and facilities damaged.

Bukowski's Pirates, led by head coach Sean Comfort, went 14-12 in 6A.
