Sneads bringing home a 7th State Volleyball Championship Trophy

Sneads makes it 7 straight state volleyball championships Friday in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, FL (WJHG/WECP) The Sneads volleyball team has yet another state title trophy to bring back home. And now shares the record for the most consecutive volleyball state championships ever!

Sneads beating Newberry Friday afternoon in the 1A state championship match, winning in four sets, the scores 25-16, 26-24, 21-25 and 25-22.

The Pirates opened with a strong first set, then struggled in the second, falling behind early. They rallied to win and were a set away from history.

The Panthers able to scratch out the third set win, but Sneads comes back in a back and forth fourth set. The Pirates eventually winning that set and getting the championship.

7 straight state titles ties them with Olympic Heights, which won 7 consecutive titles between 1996 and 2002.

Afterwards I spoke with coach Heather Edge who talked about her emotions shortly after the win.

"Relief, excitement, I'm very proud of these young ladies. We had a lot of mental and emotional ups and downs in that game and our backs were against the wall, and instead of laying down and letting Newberry creep in, we kept fighting. We kept our composure. So I'm extremely proud of these girls. And they, for the most part, played like a true family and what I've been asking them to do all year long."

The team celebrating in Fort Myers, the parents all chipping in to hire a limo to take the girls to dinner. After spending the night in Fort Myers they will load up the bus and head home Saturday morning.
