Sneads volleyball's looking to earn another state championship

SNEADS, Fla (WJHG/WECP) - The Sneads volleyball team knows a lot about performing at a high level, because under the leadership of head coach Sheila Roberts, it's been doing that for some time now.

Sneads is the four time reigning 1A state champions, and they are working towards what they hope will be a fifth straight title.

They are 23-4, and coming off a first round playoff win, in straight sets, over Laurel Hill.

That has them back on the home floor Thursday night against 21-3 Baker in the region final.

"This year I have several girls that had big sisters that came through the program who are actually seniors," Sheila Roberts, Sneads volleyball coach said. "So these girls were kind of tested last year as juniors, my senior class. And they came out like steamrollers in the playoffs (last year) nobody came close to them. So this year, again, I think it means even more to them as seniors, now they're the leaders. And I think they're putting an exclamation on their volleyball career here at Sneads, you know."

And let's just say there's reason again for postseason confidence in that gym!

"We try not to think about it. What we focus on is being the best team we can be every time we go out. And no matter who we are playing, no matter what people are predicting or what they think we're going to do, we come out and respect every opponent. And we want to play for every single point. And if I can beat a team 25-2, then that's what I want to do."

Blountstown at Liberty another 1A region final set for Thursday night.

Choctaw. Mosley and South Walton hosting matches Wednesday.
