Sneads volleyball team finds "sweet" way to raise money for trip to Fort Myers

SNEADS, FL (WJHG/WECP) for Friday's 1A State Championship match in Fort Myers.

The players on the Sneads volleyball team are working rather hard in every way to prepare for their trip to the 1A State Championship Friday against Bell down in Fort Myers.

The Sneads team, gunning for a 6th consecutive state title, for a second straight day Tuesday, holding a bake sale outside the Piggly Wiggly in Sneads to help defray the cost of that trip.

And it's safe to say those efforts are paying off, literally.

"The community has been awesome," Sneads head coach Heather Brinkmeier told us outside the grocery store Tuesday afternoon "from sponsoring us with signs, or making goody bags. These girls can eat, so they're always donating food to them. We've been at this bake sale for two days, and we've raised over a thousand dollars. In total, like three hours, at the most. So they're constantly, as people walk by, even if we don't have a sign that says Sneads volleyball, they know what they're out here for, they know we're going to State, everyone keeps up with them."

And I can update that amount, coach says they raised about $2,500 over the two days!

One more home workout, the team hits the road Thursday, the championship match Friday at one eastern.
