Vernon looks ahead to road trip Friday to Bozeman

VERNON, FL (WJHG/WECP) Among the good match ups set for week 6 of the high school football season in our area is the one set for Bozeman, as Coach Gerald Tranquille and his Vernon Yellowjackets head east to take on the Bucks.

Vernon prepares for season opener Friday at Crestview

1A Vernon began the year playing up in class against 7A. They took their lumps in that one, but since then, coach Tranquille's team has won big over Rutherford and Chipley, with those wins sandwiched around a huge comeback win over Autauga.

And last week, a chance to settle down and catch their breath during a bye week. Coach T feels like that was the right thing at the right time.

"We took Monday (of last week), went a little lighter, did some conditioning, watched some film." coach Tranquille told me. "Tuesday and Wednesday we went full pads and we really just worked on us. Didn't really look to Bozeman, didn't want to go get 'em burned out on it. So we really just worked on some details and some little things that you don't get to normally do, during the season. And Thursday we started game-planning for Bozeman and we gave them Friday off. So we definitely should have some fresh legs. Should be mentally refreshed and ready to go into this week."

And now they are focused squarely on those Bucks, and coach Tranquille tells us he's expecting a rather tough fight on this road trip.

"They're a little more athletic this year than they have been in year's past. Their quarterback he can run around, do some good things. The receivers run around and get open. They're huge up front. They've got a big offensive line. And defensively they send pressure, they want to come get you. Theyre not gonna let you sit back there and get comfortable. I definitely think coach Griffin, going into his second or third year has got them moving in the right direction. It's gonna be a good test for us."

That game at Bozeman set for 7 Friday and it's one of several we'll feature on Friday Night Overtime.
