VERNON, FL (WJHG/WECP) The Vernon football team may be behind the pack in terms of number of games played so far this season, but coach Tranquille's team is certainly feeling pretty good about itself here in week 5.
Vernon is getting set to host a team out of Greer, South Carolina Blue Ridge High.
The Jackets are 1-1 and coming off a 54-0 win over rival Chipley.
That just their second because their opener with Freeport was cancelled, and then they had an early bye week in week 3.
No doubt the win over Chipley was a big win, one the coach wants the kids to forget about....sort of!
"The kids were really excited, it had been a long time since we had beaten them." coach Tranquille tells us. "But when we got back Friday night I told them enjoy it, it had been awhile, but come Monday we got to move on from it. I don't want it to take away from what we're doing this week, and at the same time we're gonna try to build on the success that we had. It's been since 2009 since we had beaten them there. From what I've known, the first shutout, biggest margin of victory. It was a huge game for us and we're gonna use it to catapult us the rest of the season."
That game with Blue Ridge Friday set for 7 and is another we'll feature on Friday Night Overtime.
