HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A local commissioner was arrested on Tuesday.

Holmes County Attorney Nate Nolin says the Holmes County Board of Commissioners was notified that District 2 Commissioner Brandon Newsom was taken into custody by the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office following an ongoing investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office has confirmed to NewsChannel 7 that Newsom was arrested on two felony charges -- Unauthorized Person Acting as Bail Bonds Agent and Aiding and Abetting Unlicensed Activity.

Nolin tells NewsChannel 7 “It is our understanding that the District 2 Commissioner voluntarily submitted himself for processing, and was subsequently released on recognizance. Because the investigation is ongoing and litigation is pending, specific response to the matter is inappropriate at this time. All questions should be directed to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office or the District Attorney’s Office.”
