Franklin County commission passes rezoning proposal at Friday meeting amid resident pushback
Public speakers shared their worries that the ordinance could lead to more traffic, denser housing and impact their way of life
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - Franklin County commissioners voted on an ordinance to allow planned unit developments, or PUDs, which could pave the way for more development.
Friday night, public speakers shared their worries that this could lead to more traffic, denser housing and impact their way of life.
Some residents, like Dottie Thornburg, said the county needs to focus on other growth before opening up to more developments.
“Yikes, are we putting the cart before the horse? No. Not really, because we have no horse and we have no cart,” Thornburg said. “We’ve got to have good schools and dependable healthcare. We’re just not there yet.”
The commission voted 4 to 1 to pass the ordinance with adjusted language that the ordinance would encompass all of unincorporated Franklin County.
