PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - One local company is starting out the next generation of workforce well prepared!
On National Take Your Child to Work Day, Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative demonstrated what it takes to deliver reliable and safe electricity to the youngest of our community members. Activities ranged from a pole top rescue demonstration, bucket truck rides, soft track rides, mini ex rides, fire extinguisher demo, and safety demo.
Director of Safety and Training, Cole Barfield, said, “It’s honestly a blessing to be able to be here and have a kid see what we do every day and some of the fun we have and some of the struggles and just make it fun for them.”
Full of excitement to learn something new, children ranging from 2 years old to 15 visited the different stations trying their hand at a new skill.
Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Kristin Douglas, said, “Well we’re like a family here, and so we’re glad to extend that today. I think it just gives them an understanding of what their parent or grandparent comes to work and does every day and how important this is to our community, and you never know we might have some future line workers here.”
