HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A wanted suspect in Holmes County hid in an air conditioning vent to avoid being arrested.

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office said they were conducting a traffic stop that soon turned into a pursuit on July 3. The vehicle eventually spun out and came to a stop after authorities conducted a special maneuver, according to a Holmes County Sheriff’s office Facebook post.

The passenger, Tavares Godwin, ran from the scene. Authorities said Godwin had outstanding warrants. K-9 teams from Walton County and Washington County Correctional Institution worked with Holmes County Sheriff’s office to locate Godwin.

The K-9 teams eventually found Godwin at a home on Highway 10-A. The homeowner, Jackie Powell, told authorities that Godwin was not inside the house, allowing them inside to search, law enforcement said.

Deputies said they found Godwin in the home hiding inside an air conditioning return vent.

While conducting the search, deputies said they found what they believed to be methamphetamine. After obtaining a search warrant, their suspicions were correct and deputies said they also found drug paraphernalia and a firearm inside the house.

Godwin’s charges include outstanding Holmes County warrants and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.

While Powell faces charges of accessory after the fact, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
