Man arrested; smashes store door for some cigarettes

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, a man identified as Eddie Mcleese, 30, was arrested for reportedly smashing the front door of a convenience store for two packs of cigarettes Wednesday morning.

Deputies said he smashed the front door of the Sunoco Food Mart on Highway 90 in Milligan with a large rock, causing $700 in damage for just $10 worth of merchandise.

The incident happened just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Deputies said surveillance video showed a white male with shaggy hair and a beard break the glass door. We're told Mcleese then reportedly grabbed two packs of Native brand cigarettes, a lighter and then ran out the door.

Officials said they were able to locate and arrest Mcleese on the Yellow River Bridge. They say they found an unopened pack of Native brand cigarettes by his side.

Deputies said when the suspect was informed he was under arrest for burglary, he said he would not have done it if the jail had not "stolen" his cigarettes and that "we should call it even."

Mcleese is charged with burglary, criminal mischief, and petty theft.
