PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - It’s scallop season, and some middle school students had the opportunity for a bit of hands-on learning Thursday.

Ohana Institute, in Inlet Beach, took their 7th and 8th graders to St. Joe Bay on a scalloping field trip.

For many of the 25 students, this was their first time scalloping.

Ohana Institute is a fully accredited private school that focuses on project-based learning.

Scallop season in Gulf County lasts through September 24th, so there’s still time if you’d like to make the trip!
