A passing storm returns to the forecast into the late week
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Good Tuesday afternoon everyone! Our hot and summery weather setup continues today with only a small and spotty shot at afternoon showers or thunderstorms to speak of. We’ll see a more active day ahead for Thursday by mid to late afternoon and evening.
REST OF TODAY: Not much different from the past couple day’s forecast. Expect a hot and humid feel with mostly to partly sunny skies. Highs reach the low 90s on the coast to near 95° inland with heat indices near 105-108°. The sea breeze and daytime heating only work so much to overcome a ridge of high pressure aloft to squeeze out a very small, isolated and brief shot at a shower or rumble of thunder at a 10-20% chance after 2pm.
TONIGHT: Skies stay mostly to partly clear through the evening but become more partly cloudy overnight. Lows tonight in the low 70s inland to mid 70s on the coast.
THURSDAY: Partly sunny skies but dry during the morning and midday. Temperatures warm to near 90 in the afternoon ahead of likely batch of passing thunderstorms by mid to late afternoon in our eastern counties shifting to our western counties by early evening.
FRIDAY: Thursday’s increase in rain chances comes from additional moisture off the remnants of Dolly paired with a low to mid level trough moving west from the Florida Peninsula across the Northern Gulf toward Louisiana. This will give us a more typical summery setup of widely scattered afternoon into early evening showers or thunderstorms at a decent chance you catch an hours worth of rain. Rain chances are around 60% for both the coast and inland. The afternoon rain chances keep most highs to the upper 80s.
THIS WEEKEND: Our afternoon rain chances pick back up to a more typical summery setup for hit or miss showers or storms for at max an hour’s worth of your day. Otherwise, hot and humid with highs near or in the low 90s and heat indices back up to near 105°.
