Ascension Sacred Heart Bay celebrates survivors at 2nd annual Profiles in Pink
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to an end, Ascension Sacred Heart Bay is celebrating the strength and milestones of patients on their breast cancer journeys.
Around 50 breast cancer survivors attended the second annual Profiles in Pink event, most of whom were treated by surgical oncologist Dr. Alison Moody.
Each breast cancer journey is different, but coming together to celebrate each other’s milestones is what Profiles in Pink is all about. The room was filled with strength and support as survivors shared their stories and celebrated how far they’ve come.
Dr. Moody says finding breast cancer early can make treatment easier and help keep it from spreading. She encourages women to get regular mammograms, noting some early signs can only be found through that type of screening.
“When some women are jumping in and saying, ‘Hey, I prefer to ultrasound or without a mammogram,’ we can miss the opportunity sometimes to have those really early catches,” Dr. Moody said.
Nearly all of the survivors at the event were two to three years into their survivorship. While every patient’s experience is different, Dr. Moody says education is an important part of cancer care and can help patients stay healthy before, during, and after treatment.
This is the second year Ascension Sacred Heart Bay has hosted the event.
