As COVID-19 becomes more widespread in Florida, some parents may be concerned about how it can impact standardized testing for students.

So the Walton County school district is taking steps to keep students and teachers safe.

"At all schools in Walton County we are doing a deep cleaning in our schools, and at the high schools, middle, and elementary, we're paying special attention to our computer labs," said Alexis Tibbetts the Principal of South Walton High School.

With standardized testing around the corner, school district officials will be working with the Department of Education to make changes, if they are needed.

"Now, if they gave us a remote location that students could come and do testing either individualized or in a collective body then we would accommodate," said A. Russell Hughes the Superintendent of Walton County Schools.

As a precaution, during spring break, everything in Walton County Schools will be deep cleaned to protect against Coronavirus and other illnesses.

If any student or faculty member travels to a level two or three country, or goes on a cruise for spring break, they will have to self-isolate for 14 days.

"It's important that we know, kind of like we do in our county when we go swimming, 'know before you go,' we want to do that with travel during the spring break season," said Hughes.

Students are also being educated on the proper protection methods, like washing their hands and staying home when they feel sick.
