40-year sentence handed down in fatal Bay County stabbing
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Joseph Michael Lynch was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Thursday for a stabbing that happened in July 2026.
Lynch was charged with homicide and burglary with battery after police say he kicked in the front door of a 33-year-old man’s home and stabbed him multiple times following an argument over a car.
Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from stab wounds and performed lifesaving measures until Springfield Fire Rescue and Bay County Fire Rescue arrived. The victim was taken to Ascension Sacred Heart Bay, where he later died from his injuries.
Lynch pleaded no contest and was convicted of second-degree murder and burglary with assault or battery. A judge sentenced him to 40 years in prison for both charges, with the sentences to be served at the same time, and ordered him to have no contact with the victim’s family.
