Outside fire in Santa Rosa Beach 90% contained, no injuries reported
Fire affected three acres of Point Washington State Forest, evacuations lifted
SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) — First responders were on the scene of an outside fire near Seacrest and Satinwood Drive in Santa Rosa Beach starting at 2 p.m. Saturday.
No structures were damaged and no people were hurt.
Fire 90% contained
As of 7:40 p.m. Saturday, 90% of the fire was contained. Three acres of the Point Washington State Forest area were affected.
According to officials with the Florida Forest Service, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Evacuations lifted
Temporary evacuations were put in place as a precaution in neighborhoods south and west of the fire. Just before 4 p.m., all evacuation precautions were lifted.
Florida Forest Service crews said they will stay on scene and continue to monitor the fire until it is completely contained.
Mackenzie McClintock, with the South Walton Fire District, said evacuated residents have been able to return home.
“The original evacuations that were in place for the neighborhoods for the south and west of the fire have been rescinded. Everybody has been able to return to their homes, and the bulk of the fire has been knocked down by all the responding crews,” McClintock said.
Rachel Beach, a mitigation specialist with the Florida Forest Service, asked drivers to use caution in the area.
“Just be cautious when you’re driving around this area, and if you can just avoid it just due to the smoke in the area. Be mindful of having bonfires or anything like that,” Beach said.
