New kayak launch open in Millville
The very first dedicated kayak launch in Bay County is officially open.
Panama City leaders held a ribbon cutting Tuesday morning at the Watson Waterfront Park in Millville.
The roughly $130,000 project was paid for in part by a grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
It includes an ADA accessible floating dock with a launch slot and an overhead assist bar.
"The floating dock facility and the bar that they have allows you to really step down into it. If you have to launch from a floating dock, this bar is crucial and having something to keep your kayak going from side to side when you're getting in it, you just couldn't ask for anything any better," Owner of Sunjammers Outdoor Equipment Store Brad Stephens said.
Construction took about two months to complete. The launch is open from dawn to dusk.
